Life drawing is one of my first loves.
On entering Art College, the life drawing studios had the most impact on all of us initially.
You learn how very difficult it is to translate the human form onto paper - to really see the shape of the fingers, the curve of the arm, the angles and proportioning of the larger planes of the torso. You are continually working in line and shadow to build a
3 dimensional form on
2 dimensional paper, trying to make the subject look real and alive.
From gestures of 1 minute,
2 minutes and 5 minutes. To longer poses of 30 minutues or an hour or two, it was all about learning how to see differently and get what you wanted onto paper.
After many years away from studio work, I returned in the l990's and found my passion for the human form was still vibrant and energized.
These works are the product of those studio visits.
These sketches are not for sale.
